Boerne ISD School Guide: Everything Parents Need to Know

Understanding Boerne Independent School District for your family

Boerne ISD is one of the top-rated school districts in Texas and a major reason families choose to move to the Hill Country. With excellent academic programs, championship athletics, and strong community support, BISD provides an exceptional educational experience. This guide covers everything parents need to know about enrolling their children and choosing the right schools.

District Overview

Boerne Independent School District serves approximately 10,000 students across 14 campuses. The district consistently earns A ratings from the Texas Education Agency and ranks among the top districts in the San Antonio region. BISD is known for strong academics, excellent fine arts programs, and competitive athletics including state championship teams. The district covers the City of Boerne, Fair Oaks Ranch, and surrounding areas of Kendall and Bexar counties.

Elementary Schools

BISD operates six elementary schools serving grades K-5: Boerne Elementary near downtown, Fabra Elementary, Herff Elementary, Kendall Elementary, Van Raub Elementary in Fair Oaks Ranch, and Currey Creek Elementary. Each campus offers full-day kindergarten, specials including art, music, and PE, and various enrichment programs. Class sizes are typically 18-22 students. Your assigned school depends on your home address. Check the BISD website zone finder to determine your schools.

Middle Schools

Two middle schools serve grades 6-8: Boerne Middle School North on River Road and Boerne Middle School South on IH-10. Both offer similar programs including athletics, band, choir, theater, and various electives. The transition from elementary includes more independence and departmentalized classes. Both campuses have competitive athletics and strong UIL academic programs. Middle school feeder patterns align with high school zones.

High Schools

Boerne High School, home of the Greyhounds, serves the northern portion of the district while Samuel V. Champion High School, home of the Chargers, serves the southern portion. Both are comprehensive high schools offering AP courses, dual credit programs with local colleges, career and technical education pathways, and competitive extracurriculars. Boerne High School has historic state championships in football and track. Champion is newer with state-of-the-art facilities and growing programs.

Enrollment Process

To enroll, you will need proof of residency such as utility bill or lease, student birth certificate, immunization records, previous school records, and parent identification. New student registration can be started online at boerneisd.net. The district offers registration events before each school year and accepts new students year-round. For transfers from out of state, Texas requires certain immunizations that your current state may not, so check requirements early.

Private School Options

For families considering private education, Boerne offers several options. St. Helena Catholic School provides PreK-8 education with a faith-based curriculum. Geneva School of Boerne offers classical Christian education for K-12. Nearby San Antonio has additional private school options including highly-rated college preparatory schools. Many families in Fair Oaks Ranch and southern Boerne commute to North San Antonio private schools.
